Refurbish unit abolished, says Beattie

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE says the government unit that allowed a $600,000
refurbishment of a minister's Brisbane offices has been abolished.

The opposition today released Freedom of Information documents which detail spending in
Fair Trading Minister JUDY SPENCE's city office, including a $6,000 paint job, $255 for a
garbage bin and $194 for two toilet roll holders for the ministerial bathroom.

Mr BEATTIE, who last year wrote to all ministers ordering them to clear all office
expenditure through him, admits this one slipped through the cracks shortly after the change
of government.

However, he says the $600,000 cost was for the whole floor and not just the ministerial
office.

He also pointed out that the Queensland Property Management unit, which has since been
disbanded, also allowed the $900,000 refurbishment of a former National Party minister's
office.
