Qld:- Roadtrain driver escapes tanker inferno
BRISBANE, April 20 AAP - A roadtrain driver had a lucky escape today when the tyresof his petrol tanker caught fire north-east of Mount Isa.
Mount Isa police Sergeant Bill Edbrooke said the driver managed to unhook the roadtrainfrom the tanker, which was carrying 33,000 litres of petrol, and drive it a safe distancedown the road before the flames really took hold.
"We have unconfirmed reports that the tanker, complete with fuel, burnt to the ground," he said.
Sergeant Edbrooke said the accident occurred 60km west of the Burke and Wills Roadhouseand about three hours north-east of the small community of Cloncurry.
