Fed: Sky marshals to fly between Singapore and Aust

Armed sky marshals could be on flights between Australia and the United States early next year.

Federal Justice and Customs Minister CHRIS ELLISON says Australia is in discussions
with the US government about getting sky marshals on flights.

He says there are some logistical aspects that need sorting out, but he's confident
of reaching an agreement.

Senator ELLISON yesterday announced a deal had been reached for armed air marshals
to be on Qantas flights between Australia and Singapore.

The officers began travelling on flights yesterday, although passengers won't know
which flights the sky marshals are on.

Sky marshals already travel on some domestic flights in Australia.
